The Church wishes to accompany those who are grieving and to show the Light of Jesus Christ Risen to those whose hearts are broken. The parish embraces those who are mourning and gives direction for ceremonies to thank God for the deceased’s life and to hold family and friends close in prayer.

Funeral PlanningIf you or someone in your family wishes to plan a Funeral Liturgy, please contact the Parish Office and request to speak with a member of staff for funeral planning. You will be connected to an appropriate staff member who is experienced in funeral planning and they will be able to guide and assist you.
For your convenience, we have prepared a guide entitled "Funeral Rites & Readings" which is available below. This funeral guide will provide you with general information regarding funeral rites that are followed by our Archdiocese. The funeral guide will also provide you with selective readings from Sacred Scripture and songs and hymns that are appropriate for Funeral Liturgies. Also, available below, is a planning sheet that can be used to begin preparing the Order of the Funeral. -
Compassion Ministry
The Compassion Ministry at SVDP is committed to serving and administering to the needs of families of the parish in their time of bereavement.
Our basic function is providing receptions and support for families and friends after funerals celebrated at the church and once a year providing for families, a special Day of Remembrance mass for parishioners who passed away during the year followed with a reception.The commitment and needs for members are:• A compassion heart and desire for a heartwarming experience• Planning, setup and serving at receptions• Providing desserts when requested• Planning and setting up for Day of Remembrance including providing lunchBecause of the short lead time for funerals, scheduling can be difficult which require a pool of volunteers.Any questions, please contact: Bunny Johnson at 713-202-0109 or via email.
